"An Elly Baby Shower"

My Thai friend, fondly known as Pear to all of us and me organised a baby shower for our mutual friend, Tengku Eliza, who was expecting her second child. Since we were not sure what the baby's sex is (at that time),  I decided on the theme colour of green and yellow. We had arranged everything from the party favours, games to be played, gifts for games, food, cake, cookies and decoration. I also painstakingly hand made the pom-pom rosettes from tissue papers to be hung as part of the theme.

I had a Dear Baby card made for Eliza as memory keepsakes. These cards were given to the guests and they had fill up the cards with "good" advice for the future baby. All in all, the baby shower went well and we had fun with the games. I guess all my hardwork paid off.

I also contributed a cake, cupcakes and butter cookies for the party. The cake was chocolate with vanilla filling and a coating of belgian chocolate ganache. The cupcakes were vanilla bean flavoured with vanilla frosting. The cookies were made in the shape of elephants in the same theme colours. There were also vanilla bean flavoured.

Even though Eliza had hoped for a baby boy, her second child turned out to be a baby girl. They named her Nur Elea. She was born on the 24th of February 2015.

Both Pear and me, satisfied with all our hard work!

Congratulations again, Eliza on your baby and may she bring you more happiness and joy!

"Sugar Cookies Fit For A Princess"

This was the first order I agreed to take after my carpal tunnel release surgery. Raja Johanna ordered these chocolate decorated cookies to celebrate the arrival of her baby girl last December 2013. She marked the arrival of baby Zahira, full name Tengku Zahira Eusnie by hosting a Majlis Aqiqah & Cukur Jambul for her relatives and close friends on the 16th of March 2014.

The theme colour was pink and the rest she left it up to me to decide the design and combination of theme colours. Her only other specification was to have baby related shape for my cookies. At first, I was kind of worried committing myself to this order because of my hand, which is not fully healed and also the water rationing in Selangor, but I planned and organised myself with this order. I was quite proud actually that I managed to get this order done despite my predicament.

I started off earlier in the week by baking the chocolate cookies. Since we were experiencing water rationing, I wanted to get the cookies done while we had water. Thank goodness, the cookies turned out well and we managed to finish our baking in 2 days as I split them into two batches. I even baked a few extra pieces in the event of breakages. My idea was to have 6 different cookie shapes with each shape comprising of 25 cookies. The cookie shapes I made were pacifiers, baby rattles, onesies, butterflies, prams & teddy bears. I also had the thank you tags customised and printed by a professional printer. The theme colours I chose for the cookies were baby pink, light grey and white.

"Its A Girl"

A baby shower cake for mommy to be Dina, who's expecting a baby girl. Ordered by her sister, Jesrina Arshad, the cake is a 2 tiered cake with the theme colours of pink, yellow, white & mint green. The lower tier of the cake is vanilla bean with vanilla frosting and top tier is orange cake with belgian chocolate ganache. The concept is mostly geometric patterns with a sleeping baby girl on the top tier as the main centrepiece of the cake. Also ordered along with this cake, 20 cupcakes decorated with 3D sugarpaste pieces. Cupcakes are  vanilla bean flavoured with vanilla buttercream.

Look at how angelic the baby girl looks asleep!

The cupcakes I made tie with the main cake in the same theme colours and I did a few 3D sugar pieces such as the baby under the blanket, pink teddy bears, rattle, bibs, daisies and the baby girl wordings. I also tied a ribbon individually on the cupcake casing to create the soft and sweet effect. This was indeed a fun project and I enjoyed making this order very much!

Thanks again for the order, Jess and I hope you had a great baby shower last Sunday.

"More Cupcakes"

I had plenty of cupcakes to make at the end of June. Cupcakes are relatively very simple to make and I could do it without much preparation unless if its a fondant cupcake that requires sugar modelling!

Long story short, the Petronas Chemical Group or PCG ordered from me a day before their meeting, 75 cupcakes with 3 different flavours. For most bakers, this is quite an easy order and not complicated at all. Most bakers don't work during the day and most bakers could take their time as they have the whole day to do it. This baker, me, work from 8 to 5 pm and is the designated driver for the kids in the evening for their tutorials. So, am only able to start my baking at 8 pm. By the time I was done, I was exhausted and I sometimes wonder if its really worth it! Come to think of it, lately I've been contemplating on actually retiring from making cakes.

Time is so precious and I don't even have time for myself anymore! Well back to the cupcakes, I made sea salt chocolate, red velvet and vanilla bean cupcakes.

I was very happy with how they looked and even though I was tired, I made sure my cakes were still good in quality and taste! After this order was delivered I had to make another 50+ cupcakes for the weekend. Man, it was just cupcake orders that week. First I had to make cupcakes for my MIL, who happened to be in town that weekend. Then, I had to make for my friend, Mastura, who just had a baby girl. So, its supposed to be a baby shower sort of surprise for her. At the same time, I also had an order from Azlina, who wanted to have the edible images of t-trex on her son's cupcakes for school.

It wasn't that bad as I had the whole Saturday to plan and bake my cupcakes, or so I thought. I took my time starting those cupcakes and I did my errands first. At the end of the day however, I was still in a rush cause I left it too late to start baking and I started stressing myself out!! I'm glad though that I still managed to finish all of them by the time I left for dinner at my SIL's abode. Alhamdulillah for that :)

After this particular weekend was over and all cupcakes safely delivered, I had to make another cake for Raja Johanna, whose husband, Tengku Datuk Zafrul just turned 40. That will be in my next blog entry! I never got to rest that weekend actually!!

"Baby Shower"

"It's A Boy!!"
A baby shower cake and cupcakes ordered for a mum-to-be expecting her 3rd boy!! The cake is lemon with lemon buttercream and the theme colours are yellow and white. The cake has a sleeping baby on it while the cupcakes are decorated with all baby stuff such as bib, rattle, baby blocks and so on...

"Mummy Dina's Shower"
Mummy Dina's sisters organised a baby shower for her and the theme colours are blue, yellow, mint green & white. Since the mom-to-be will be expecting a baby boy, all the cupcakes and cookies were done in boyish theme. The cupcakes had a baby under a blankie, a duckie, onesie, bib, baby bottle and a baby block on them. The sugar cookies were made in the shape of a duck, teddy bear, rattle, baby carriage, onesie and a pacifier. All made in the colour requested by Jes.
