"Irfan's Birthday Cake"

My cousin Hazrene or as we fondly call her, Ejin, had made this cake order way back in March this year. She wanted to celebrate her son's 12th Birthday on 06th May 2012 with close family members. At first she wanted to do a fishing theme as her son loves to go on fishing trips with his dad but Irfan wanted a cake version of his favourite car model, Shelby GT 500 KR. To please her son, Ejin changed the theme to a car cake. When I received the photos of the car, my first thought was, am so dead!!! How in the world am I going to make this car???

I haven't made any car cakes yet to date!! But I had to be optimistic and I took the challenge. I told myself, "Pink Ellies Boleh!!!" I baked the cakes before I left for work on Friday and left it to cool down in the refrigerator before I sculpted the cake into a car shape. The cake was chocolate, therefore it was a bit soft and I had to carefully cut the cake so that I don't over do it. I covered the cake in white chocolate ganache first and then covered the cake in fondant.

I had to then do the cake part by part and tried to follow as much as I can of the actual car image. It didn't really turned out 100% per say but am quite happy with the cake overall. I do think it can be improved and hopefully, if I ever get any car orders in the future, I am more prepared. Take a look at my final product...

Irfan loves the cake and was so thrilled when he saw the cake. Happy 12th Birthday, sweetie!!!

I had to also make for Ejin another small cake for her daughter, Anisah, who was very upset that she didn't get her own cake! Just a simple Hello Kitty cake, which she loves to bits!

My daughter, Hannah, loved this cake. She wants the same theme for her birthday in October. Well, we'll see because October is such a long time from now, Hannah and you might just change your mind later on!!!
